Here you go mommies – a different kind of survey for a change – it’s all about your first born!
1. WAS YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY PLANNED?
Yes, we planned to get pregnant in June or July, but after going off the pill, I got pregnant in 3 weeks and concieved in late March instead!
2. WERE YOU MARRIED AT THE TIME?
Yes, had been married just under a year.
3. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS?
I kept thinking that Chris was insane to think I was pregnant, wouldn’t I notice it first? But then when I found out I was, I thought I did the test wrong! But I was pretty excited, until I realized I would be going through the 2nd trimester during the summer and was a little worried about that!
4. WAS ABORTION AN OPTION FOR YOU?
Absolutly not.
5. HOW OLD WERE YOU?
25 when I got pregnant, 26 when he was born.
6. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT?
Chris kept insisting I was, but the home test confirmed it.
7. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST?
Chris of course, he then went yelling through work that I was pregnant. We then kept quiet for 2 more weeks until we had a ultrasound video and gave it to his parents. His mom figured it out quick, but his poor dad kept thinking that the tracking on the video was bad! Chris’ grandparents all said they knew already by just looking at me. We waited until Mother’s Day to tell my mom. We took a ultrasound picture and put it inside a Mother’s Day card and sent it to her. I had her call us when she opened the card. On the outside it said “Happy Mother’s Day, Grandma” but she didn’t get what it meant! She had to read the card 7-8 times before she finally realized!
8. DID YOU WANT TO KNOW THE SEX?
You bet we did, we wanted to start shopping right away. Plus we wanted to decide on what theme we were going to do. We chose “Paddington Bear” for his room.
9. DUE DATE?
The first due date was December 24th! I told Oma (Chris’ grandmother) that if I went into labor on Christmas Eve just to pack up dinner and bring it to the hospital! (haha). Then it was moved to December 18th, but he was induced in December 15th.
10. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS?
Not one single day of it! I was very blessed! But the women in my mother’s family have little to no morning sickness with boys, but horrible sickness with girls. That is how I knew I was having a boy before the 2nd ultrasound was given to determine the sex. The only signs I had was being very tired, some headaches, and apparently that pregnancy “glow”.
11. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE?
The only big craving I had was I had to have Skipper’s Clam Chowder almost everyday! Thank God there was a Skipper’s just a couple of blocks from our home. I also wanted water all the time. I never had any food adversions thankfully, I could cook anything and it didn’t make me sick, but in a weird twist of fate, I had food adversions AFTER I had him! I couldn’t stand the sight of any kind of cereal, not even a box of it! I could not even go down the cereal aisle in the store for about 3 months after his birth!
12. WHO IRRITATED YOU THE MOST?
Nobody i can think of.
13. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CHILDS SEX?
My sweet boy!
14. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING?
No, girls are too high maintance!
15. HOW MANY POUNDS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE
PREGNANCY?
I think it was about 30 lbs.
16. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER?
Yes, Chris and his mom, grandmothers and aunts threw it for me.
17. WAS IT A SURPRISE OR DID YOU KNOW?
Haha, they couldn’t slip that past me!
18. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR PREGNANCY?
Yes, I went into premature labor in the 25th week after he jammed his head onto my sciatic nerve and I was in unreal pain! I went to the hospital with it once on a Wednesday, but went home a couple of hours later. Then he did it again on Friday and that is when I went into labor. I had to be taken to another hospital and was given medication to stop the labor and stayed there in NICU for 3 days.
19. WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH?
Saint Clare Hospital, Lakewood, Washington.
20. HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR?
Given the labor induction pill at 7am, had first contraction at 7:20am (haha, they said it would take 1-2 hours for labor to begin, but I was ready to roll!) Had him at 9:52pm. So 13 hours and 32 minutes of labor in all.
21. WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL?
Chris
22. WHO WATCHED THE BIRTH?
Ha, who didn’t? The nurse joked that we should have called ahead and asked to set up bleachers in the room! It was me (obviously!) Chris, Chris’ mom, Both of Chris’ grandmother’s, Dr. Magglessen (another obvious!) and 2 nurses (one for me and one for him). Also in the room, but behind a curtain was Chris’ dad, Chris’ little brother, Uncle Todd and both of Chris’ grandfathers. Family total would be 10.
23. WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION?
Natural
24. DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN?
You bet I did! This was the one time I could get doped up legally! I had a pain medicine that afternoon that really looped me out and then the epidural.
27. HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH?
8 lbs. 1 oz.
28. DID YOUR CHILD HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS?
Nope, he was perfect! Had an APGAR score of 9 at both 1 minute and 5 minutes (That is out of possible 10)
29. WHAT DID YOU NAME HIM/HER?
Nathaniel Joshua. I picked out the first name and I named him after Barbara Mandrell’s son because I heard that name years ago and loved it. Also it means “gift of God” or “man of God”. Chris chose Joshua because he is Chris’ favorite Biblical character. He also chose it in memory of his cousin, Joshua, who passed away as an infant. His nicknames were “Bubbies” I called him that also after hearing it on “Father of the Bride 2″ (Franc called a baby a “bubbie”) and Chris to this day calls him “Thaniel” or “Thaniel-man”
30. How old is your first born today?
Today he is exactly 7 years, 2 months, and 28 days old.
